From my last two posts, it’s pretty clear that I’ve totally fallen in love with the awesome online jewelry boutique Bettyray. From its amazing price points (items range from $15-$70) to the two lovely ladies behind the brand, cousins Emmie and Tara, I can’t say enough good things about the line. Started with the busy but fashionable woman in mind, Emmie and Tara offer an eclectic array of baubles sure to please even the pickiest of shoppers. After years spent in the fashion industry, the two have pooled their knowledge to carefully curate the bijoux found on Bettyray.
Fun Bettyray fact of the day: the store is named for their two daughters (named in honor of their grandmothers) who were born on the same day!
Tell us a bit about Bettyray!
Like most good things, Bettyray came from a need. Co founders, Emmie Shapiro and Tara Laufer were both on the hunt for a career revamp. Both being loving wives and mothers of two, the duo, who are friends and cousins, wanted to wake up everyday and work on something they love. In the hopes of making their passion a pay check, Bettyray was born. Starting off as an e-store for their friends, family and local Montreal following, Bettyray has been expanding quite quickly. With a wholesale plan in the works, an aggressive social media team and a brand new site (which recently launched), Bettyray is becoming a household name for fun statement necklaces, vibrant arm candy parties and of course, #ringsonringsonrings. Mixing and matching is always fun and these two yummy mommies believe with fashion anything goes and with accessories, the more, the merrier.
Who is the Bettyray client?
The best part about shopbettyray.com is that the online selection can truly be for anyone. Our target market started off as a fashion forward, confident woman but over the past few months has expanded into a large student base as well. We cater to the fun, flirty youth, the working girl, the business owner, the stay-at-home mom, the trendy grandma and anyone in between.
What are your must have pieces for summer?
Our favourite looks for summer are stacked rings (100%), double sided earrings, neon fringe necklaces and of course, anything large and in charge. Our statement necklaces never go out of style.
What are your current favorite jewelry trends?
Again, double sided earrings. You can wear them with jeans or harem pants, skirts, dresses, weddings, anywhere really. Dress them up – dress them down. We love how they can be super girly or really edgy. Ours are also super affordable, plus points!
Layering necklaces and stacking rings seem to be two huge trends right now, do you have any styling tips for achieving this look without looking too over-done?
Ladies, whenever you are layering, keep it simple. Pick a look of the day and be practical. We love to wear tons of mini rings or knuckle rings but always make sure to keep a theme. The same goes with an arm party.
What jewelry trends are you just plain over?
SHELL NECKLACES. Period.
You have 48hrs in Montreal, how do you spend it?
Great question! Eating at Pizza Napoleatana (a must have for any cheat day), Liverpool House or Aux Vivres. Shopping at JoshuaDavid (where we hope to have our wholesale line soon!), Holts or Zara, manicure/pedicure at Rouge Nailbar, afternoon coffee at Cafe Olympico and end the day with a nice walk in Old Montreal.
