My wedding date is quickly approaching and as the day gets closer and closer, more of my attention is being directed towards the decor and florals. In my mind, besides the food, these are two components that make the biggest impact on the guests. I’ve been poking about Pinterest and the time sucking world of the internet, amassed a pretty impressive collection of bridal magazines, and sent my wonderfully patient wedding planner more than a few stills from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette in my quest to create the perfect atmosphere. Since I’ve been home, I’ve had a whole new source of inspiration to draw on. My maternal grandparent’s wedding album has long been a source of joy and wonder for me, but now that I’m planning my own wedding it’s become even more special. They were married in 1946 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City and my grandmother wore a custom Dior gown that her father purchased for her in Paris after the War ended. As a little girl, it was always a huge treat when my mother would pull out the box that the dress has been stored in to let me take a peek inside.
