Summer hasn’t quite come to an official end here in Montreal but with the ever present chill in the air, we’re already well into transitional dressing weather. While I’m not totally ready to put away my sundresses, I am pretty happy to be pulling out some of my favourite fall pieces. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to put together some of my top tips and tricks for transitional dressing.
- Throw a blazer on- Pairing a blazer with your summer tanks, tops, and dresses is the perfect way to transition those light pieces for cooler fall days.
- Layering – Invest in a well-fitting classic black turtleneck. You’ll be able to layer this under so many of your favourite summer dresses to make them appropriate for fall. Layering a sweater over your summer dresses is another great way to extend their wear life as well.
- Tights- Another quality closet staple to have is a good pair of black tights. Much like the above mentioned black turtleneck, these can be paired with your summer dresses to help bring them into the fall. Knit tights in black and grey are also wonderful for cooler winter months and will help extend the seasonal life of your dresses.
- Swap the sandals for a great boot- Without fail, my favourite style of boot is always a riding boot. A beautiful classic style, riding boots help bring your looks in to fall perfectly. A Chelseas boot is another wonder style that pairs so well with denim and even dresses.
- Darker Tones- There’s no reason to shelve your white pieces after labour day. Instead, pair them with darker toned accessories and complimentary pieces to extend their wear. The white dress featured in this post is made fall perfect with the addition of a darker belt.
