One of the most spectacular pieces in the Tiffany & Co. archive is the legendary Tiffany Diamond. Weighing almost 130 carats and featuring a staggering 82 facets, it’s considered to be one of the most important gemstone discoveries of the 19th century. It was unearthed in South Africa and was the largest yellow diamond in the world at the time. Purchased by Charles Lewis Tiffany in 1878, it took a year of planning and studying before the rough diamond was cut into a cushion cut that featured 24 more facets than a traditional round brilliant cut resulting in a glittering stone that is still considered one of the finest examples of gem cutting. Tiffany & Co. recently announced that this legendary stone is appearing for the first time ever in a campaign for the Tiffany & Co. “About Love” Campaign.
Featuring entertainment royalty, the Tiffany & Co. “About Love” Campaign features Beyoncé and her husband JAY-Z. Beyoncé wears the Tiffany Diamond while JAY-Z dons a pair of one-of-a-kind cufflinks inspired by Jean Schlumberger’s legendary Bird on a Rock Broach which once featured the Tiffany Diamond. Beyoncé is only the fourth woman to don the Tiffany Diamond following in the footsteps of Mrs. E. Sheldon Whitehouse, Audrey Hepburn, and Lady Gaga. The couple is posed in front of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Equals Pi (1982), a piece that has been in a private collection since it’s creation and thus never before seen by the general public.
“Beyoncé and JAY-Z are the epitome of the modern love story. As a brand that has always stood for love, strength and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values. We are honored to have the Carters as a part of the Tiffany family.” – Alexandre Arnault, Executive Vice President of Product & Communications.
Tiffany & Co.’s “About Love” Campaign celebrates the enduring themes of love and creativity, two tenants that are at the core of Tiffany & Co.’s identity. The stunning campaign images are accompanied by a film from acclaimed director Emmanuel Adjei featuring the Carters. Shot at the Orum House in Los Angeles, it features JAY-Z capturing Beyoncé on Super 8 camera performing the classic song “Moon River” that was made famous by 1961s Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The film will launch on Tiffany.com on September 15th.
In conjunction with the Tiffany & Co. “About Love” Campaign and the House’s partnership with the Carters, Tiffany has pledged USD $2 Million towards internships and scholarship programs for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
