I’ve always found it important to support and show love to small businesses. In light of our current climate, it feels all the more important to do that, so I’ve rounded up some of my favourites. Trend Savvy – My love of Trend Savvy is quite obvious if you follow me on Instagram. I love this on-line boutique for their well edited selection of designer and contemporary lines. With multiple new drops a week, the selection is always fresh and pricing is frequently better than retail. Eliza Faulkner – This eponymous line by Central Saint Martin’s educated Eliza Faulkner is a made in Montreal line of beautifully and expertly constructed pieces. Her pieces are modern and cool yet totally refined. Frequently made with dead stock material, Eliza produces pieces that are not only gorgeous, but are ethically produced in a traditional manner here in Montreal. Nouveau Noir – A female founded and run independent boutique in the heart of downtown Montreal, Nouveau Noir also offers an amazing online selection of well-edited contemporary pieces. Known for carrying the some of the coolest It Girl loved brands like Finders Keepers, Heartloom, and Keepsake the Label, and many more, they also have an in-house label of absolutely adorable pieces. Behida Dolic Milinery – I am OBSESSED with the work of the incredibly talented Behida Dolic, the woman behind this beautiful line. Having fled the Balkan War for the United States in 1998, she taught herself the art of Milinery and eventually expanded into womenswear as well. Utilizing her art education gained in San Francisco and Florence, she brings a romantic and refined eye to her work. BLOME – My absolute favourite hair salon here in Montreal is offering gift certificates for sale that can be used as soon as they’re able to open safely as well as an online boutique of assorted hair care items. When We Wear Young – An amazing on-line boutique founded by a local Montreal mum, this is the perfect destination for those looking for kids pieces so cool you wish they came in your size. Owner Minna has a fashion background having worked in design and development in both the London and Canadian markets, and brings an achingly cool eye to her buying. Many pieces are organic, and there is real attention paid to brands that are mindful in their production and materials. Not only clothing, When We Wear Young also offers toys, gear, and accessories for the whole family.

VARGAS GOTEO – When you purchase a piece from VARGAS GOTEAO, you’re not only supporting an independent female jeweller, you’re also supporting a multitude of environmental organizations. Food
Aliments AMGA – A family business that has supplied some of the best restaurants in Montreal and the surrounding areas for years, they’re now offering home delivery. You can order their Surf’s Up, Mother Clucker, and Butcher’s boxes to cover your lunch and dinner needs. You can also order a la carte from the wide selection of meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood offerings.
Kanel – Offering all-natural spice blends and sea salts, Kanel has been generating lots of buzz in Montreal. Founded by two local mothers, they’ve created products that are totally delicious and lovingly crafted. I recently ordered a few of their spice blends and they have all been amazing! I know we’re all cooking at home so much more, and these blends have been a wonderful addition to my kitchen. They have an on-line boutique you can order from, and they ship to Canada and the United States.
Le Pois Penche – Hands down, this is my favourite restaurant in Montreal. They hold a real special place in my heart having catered my wedding, Montreal baby shower, and even brought me my first meal in hospital after delivering madam. Classic French bistro with a modern twist, their kitchen is one of the best in Montreal. We truly miss our VERY frequent meals here – the front of house staff is top notch, and make every visit special. In fact, Madam considers one of the waitresses to be one of her very best friends. While we can’t dine-in at the moment, they are offering take out, delivery, and even frozen family style options to make dinner easy and enjoyable.
Zoe Ford Catering – One of Montreal’s top-notch caterers, Jo Notkin can also be seen on the current season of Canada’s Top Chef. While she might not be able to cater at the moment, she’s offering weekly meal service of a delicious and restaurant-worthy set menu for delivery within Montreal. You can also shop her Pantry selection of mixes and her famous Jewel Box brownies (these are AMAZING!) for delivery thoughout Canada.
Lifestyle
Earth Rated – If you’re a pet parent, you need to know Earth Rated. They produce top quality pet product essentials. Founded by passionate animal lovers, the company is made up of people who truly care about their clients both four-legged and two-legged. Located right here in Montreal, they’re also committed to supporting local shelters and animal welfare groups all over. And for those who are human parents, their poop bags are great for diaper disposal on the go. I always kept a roll in my diaper bag and even kept one in my purse and car when I was pregnant and dealing with morning sickness.
Bell Jar Botanicals – This local Montreal florist is helmed by an incredibly talented young florist. Jasmine has such a refined touch to her arrangements – they are literal works of art. Having studied floral design in the UK, she brings a special artistic touch to her work. Her work can be seen in some of Canada’s top magazines, events and weddings, and as background for some of my favourite fashion companies lookbooks and websites. You can purchase arrangements, bouquets, and even plants through her website to be delivered at a later date. As soon as her jewel box of a boutique opens back up, I’ll be stopping in not just to say hi but to pick up some beautiful blooms. In the meantime, I might have ordered my own Mother’s Day flowers for contactless delivery.
The Shed – A gem of a local yoga studio, owner Steph had totally reignited my love and practice of yoga pre-pandemic. Her Monday morning class was a staple in my weekly calendar and was the perfect way to kick off my week. For those who would love to practice with her when she’s able to re-open, you can pre-buy classes through her website. For those who would like to practice remotely, you can reach out to her to join the number of virtual classes The Shed is hosting.
Cailini Coastal – This newly launched online homes accessory boutique carries the most gorgeous coastal-inspired pieces. Impeccably sourced and curated, the selection is a blue and white lover’s dream. With everything from temple and ginger jars, kitchenware, frames, pillows, throws, and other beautiful home accents, there are so many beautiful pieces you can pick up to turn your house into a home. The amazing woman behind the boutique has also committed to donating the first six months’ of profits to Family Promises, a non-profit that supports low-income and homeless families. At the moment, shipping is only within the United States but should be be expanding to Canada and the UK in the next few months.
Maison Tess – Designed in Montreal and produced by a fourth generation family owned manufacturer in Portugal, these sheets and towels are apparently the stuff of dreams. Everyone I know who has these raves about them. I can’t wait to scoop up a set for our bed as soon as possible. Elegantly minimal, they are done is muslin cotton, waffle linen, washed lined, cotton, and coco linen. Thanks to founder Laura’s direct to consumer approach, she’s able to offer the best possible price for these luxury towels and lines. They’ve even launched a baby line with crib sheets and baby pillowcases. While based in Montreal, they ship internationally.
