I frequently touch on the subject of wardrobe staples and investing in pieces that will withstand the test of time. As much as trends are fun to play around with and incorporate into your looks, I believe timeless classics will always serve you best. Quality pieces that you properly take care of will transcend the trends, helping to cut down on waste and support sustainability. It’s been a wonderful thing seeing the fashion world and consumers become more conscious of the impact of fast fashion in recent years and shift towards becoming more responsible and mindful buyers. I know, while I’m not perfect in this, I have become much more mindful of how and from whom I purchase my clothing, shoes, and accessories from.
I recently discovered the Australian based line Silk Laundry thanks to their opening of their only Canadian boutique right here in Montreal. Located in Little Burgundy, the shop brings the relaxed and uncomplicated elegance of the Australian fashion scene to Canada. Launched by Katie Kolodinski in 2015 after seeing a gap in her own wardrobe, Silk Laundry was born with the desire to create beautiful silk pieces that make the wearer look and feel beautiful, no matter her body shape. With a commitment to sustainability and ethical practices, the pieces are not only beautiful but also mindful of the greater world. The pieces are timeless, meant to be worn season after season, but with a refreshing hint of modernity. I’m personally eyeing one of their elegant little silk 90s inspired slip-dresses. I can already picture styling it with a turtleneck and knit tights for winter but also pairing it with white sneakers and a little denim jacket for warmer months. Truly the perfect wardrobe staple!
