I love a good sale. I also love designer goods, show me a red sole and a certain quilted bag with it’s iconic chain strap and I’m sold. Shocking right? Enter Shop – Hers, which allows you to shop the closets of celebrities and regular fashion obsessed women alike from the comfort of your home and at a fraction of the retail price. Unlike similar sites, Shop -Hers doesn’t restrict your shopping time by limiting sales to only a few days. In honor of their recent global launch, I chatted with Jaclyn Shanfeld, the brains and the beauty behind my new favorite on-line shopping destination.
Tell us a bit about your background.
I started my career in fashion and entertainment, at ICM, Ford Models, and ultimately as head of the New Faces department of Vision Models.
What led you to launch Shop-Hers?
I was facing a packed schedule of social events a few years ago and was tired of pulling out my go-to outfits and didn’t want to invest in a whole new crop of designer dresses. It was then that I started thinking of ways to add to my closet with these luxury pieces without spending a fortune and Shop Hers was born – mind you with a lot of hard work and a great team of people!
What sets Shop-Hers apart from other luxury resale sites?
We have really worked to solve the problems we see in buying and selling pre-owned designer goods. Shop Hers is revolutionary in our “style soulmate” matching alone. We give women the ability to shop the closets of women who share measurements and personal style, giving them an easy-to-search tool that doesn’t have them scouring through hundreds of items. We also keep a very well-curated list of brands so shoppers are sure to only find premium designers on-site.
What lines can we expect to see popping up on Shop-Hers?
We always have a great crop of Chanel, Hermes, Balenciaga, Celine, Diane von Furstenberg, Christian Louboutin, and Louis Vuitton.
What are some of your must have items for the fall?
Right now I’m loving patterned pencil skirts for the office – there are great styles from Phillip Lim, Balenciaga, and Rochas – paired with sleek heels, it’s my new go-to. I’m also excited for the weather to cool down so I can start layering again – a skinny jean, chunky knit, and moto jacket is my uniform for Fall. I’ve also been really excited to see classic prints come down the runway like tartan and tweed. The menswear-inspired look is very much about adding your own feminine touch like a bold lip or a cat eye.
What pieces do you suggest splurging on and what items do you suggest saving on?
I always say splurge on your bag, it’s the one item you will wear everyday and it should represent your style whether you’re looking for a classic black top handle or a bold pop of color. I also think every woman needs a go-to designer dress. It doesn’t need to be an “LBD” but one that she really feels good in, that’s tailored well, and that makes a statement. You can save when it comes to accessorizing. All of the added sparkle and fun touches to your outfit can be bought for $50 or less.
