I am a spa junky….I’ve yet to meet a spa treatment I haven’t liked. When it comes to massage I am a total sucker, before I moved to Montreal I had a pretty intense relationship going with my girl Heidi aka the super awesome massage therapist. I saw her more than I saw Darling Boyfriend, granted he lived a plane ride and pretty intense security check away but I was seeing Heidi of the magic hands every two weeks like clockwork. There’s nothing better than a good massage save for scoring the wait-listed pair of Alexander McQueen skinnies on Gilt that you’d been lusting over for weeks, but I digress. Back to massages… After a massage, you sleep better, you’re usually nicer, and the world is just a better place. That being said, hands down one of the best massages I’ve ever had was at the Scandinave Les Bains Vieux-Montreal. Housed in a gorgeous converted warehouse on de la Commune Ouest in the heart of the Old Port this place is pretty much Eden to this spa junky. It has one of the most gorgeous interiors that I have ever seen, the countless awards that it has recieved are well deserved. Scandinave allows the visitor to indulge in the age-old experience of Scandinavian baths in the middle of Montreal. Offering a perfectly curated list of massages, visitors are also encouraged to enjoy the baths and the hot and dry steam rooms to enjoy the full experience. There is also a wonderful Health bar with delicious teas and smoothes and a relaxation area that is just begging you to come nap in. After my visits to Scandinave, I pretty much am a giant ball of happy mush who floats home.
When an invite to attend the VIP presentation for Scandinave’s new massage landed on my lap yesterday, I did a little happy dance, I lie….actually I did a big happy dance. Along with other Montreal bloggers and journalists, I was invited to enjoy the baths, sample the delicious teas and smoothies from the health bar, and then see the amazing new service that will be added to the massage menu starting September 6th. Designed by the insanely talented and highly regarded massage therapist and professor, Noemie Gelonas, Lomi-atsu is a brand new form of massage the perfectly marries the best of Eastern massage (Shiatsu) with the best of the West (the traditional Hawaiian massage Lomi-Lomi) to relax the body, rebalance energy levels and detoxify internal organs. Watching Noemie demonstrate the massage one could not be struck by the grace and fluidity that she demonstrated as the practitioner. It was as if we were watching a carefully choreographed dance being performed around the massage table as Noemi utilized her forearms, elbows, and palms. As a former Cirque du Soleil performer, it is quite clear she has combined her former life as a skilled acrobat with her new practice. Needless to say I will be booking a Lomi-atsu massage come September 6th and can not wait till my next visit to Scandinave Les Bains Vieux-Montreal.
A HUGE thank you to Ping Communications, Caroline Bergevin, everyone at Spa Scandinave Les Bains and Noemie Gerlinas for a wonderful and insanely relaxing evening.
