As I mentioned in my recap of the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2018 show, I’ll be dedicating a post to the accessories that were shown that day. Between the dreamy prêt-à-porter pieces sent down the runway and the absolutely jaw-dropping set, you wouldn’t be surprised if the accessories shown for Spring-Summer 2018 were simply an afterthought. How wrong you would be darlings! Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to present a collection that – in its entirety – is lust-worthy perfection. You can also count on Monsieur Lagerfeld to make rain-gear inspired PVC chic.
With an ethereal color palette of dreamy pastels and crisp whites and blacks, the collection and its accompanying accessories are a confection of sweet femininity. Far from cloying, they are a celebration of brightness and in a way optimism as well thanks to their airy nature and aquatic infused palette and silhouettes.
Elegant little brim hats perched atop models’ heads, while capes and fingerless gloves helped complete Lagerfeld’s vision. To round out the look, rain boots and thigh-high boots were shown in transparent plastic for what amounts to possibly the most high-fashion rain attire possible. This aquatic theme was carried over into spectacular necklaces featuring undulating crystalline beads and water drop earrings. As always, handbags were a highlight of the collection. From beloved classics to the newest darlings of the House of CHANEL, the GABRIELLE and BOY, they were shown with intricate embellishments and oversized logos. Done in captivating iridescent tones, almost reminiscent of a rainbow rising over the Gorges du Verdon, as well as more classic color schemes, they were even shown with their own little rain capes that seemed to serve as a trench coat for the bags themselves. I could easily wax poetic about these beautiful pieces for many more paragraphs but instead, I’ll let these stunning photographs speak for themselves. Enjoy darlings!
