Runway Report: CHANEL Haute Couture 2017/2018 Beauty Look

It is rightly expected that a CHANEL presentation will be the embodiment of perfection. Monsieur Lagerfeld’s unfailing eye and creative might craft collections that inspire and delight, and his attention to detail does not stop at the garments. From fantastic sets to inventive themes, each aspect of a CHANEL presentation is thoughtfully orchestrated and expertly produced. Also integral to the full experience is the beauty looks that accompany each collection. With each season, just as an entirely new collection of garments is created so to is the beauty look worn by the models as they don those pieces down the runway.

For the CHANEL Haute Couture F/W 2017/2018 presentation (see my full recap here), Monsieur Lagerfeld was inspired by the quintessential Parisienne and the glorious city she inhabits. With a palette of rich and luxurious fall hues, there was also inspiration drawn from noted Neo-impressionist Robert Delauney. In order not to compete with the intricately beaded and adorned hats that topped the model’s heads, the hair was simple, sleek, and pulled back from the face with an elegant centre part. Skin was flawless with only the subtlest hint of a healthy glow thanks to the Les Beiges products used to create the canvas for what amounts to a seriously sublime statement eye. As if evoking one of Delaunay’s bold masterpieces, the eyes were an almost geometric melange of rich colours from the 2017 Ombre Premiere eyeshadow collection. As for lips and nails, they were kept to the softest pink tones that were a perfectly subtle foil to the rich colours used in the eye look.
