As a follow up to my recap of the CHANEL Fall/Winter 2016/2017 show, I would have been remiss in not dedicating an entire post solely to the amazing accessories that were shown that day. While the ready-to-wear pieces couldn’t help but draw your attention, the CHANEL Fall/Winter 2016/2017 accessories were standouts in their own right. The house is known for producing some of the most coveted bags in the luxury sphere, frequently resulting in wait-lists and quickly sold out styles. The classic 2.55 bag, so named for its February 1955 release date, is a bag that consistently tops the fashion world’s must have bag lists and is a consummate classic that has never gone out of style. Also known for exquisite costume jewelry, a hallmark of the house since Mademoiselle Chanel helmed the label, CHANEL has continued to produced elegant and whimsical pieces.
Long strands of pearls were draped around models’ necks reminiscent of scarves. These achingly elegant pieces acted as the perfect feminine foil to the menswear inspired coats that were shown. Hats were done in the boater, helmet, and riding style and were adorned with the house’s signature byzantine crosses, pearls, and camellias. In a cheeky nod to the contemporary as well as Monsieur Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette, jewelry and accessories even featured merry emoticons and cats. As for the handbags, there were beautifully fresh takes on classic styles coupled with fanciful designs in the shape of bobbins and hangers. If the successes of previous collections’ more unique handbags are any indication, like those done in the shapes of plates, shopping baskets, and perfume bottles, the bobbin and hanger handbags of Fall/Winter 2016/2017 will surely become collectors items as well.
While it’s difficult to think of Fall with Spring barely having sprung, this beautiful collection has me wishing for the arrival of Fall/Winter 2016/2017. After all, CHANEL makes everything better darlings.
