To kick off my fashion week experience, I had the pleasure of attending the BCBGMAXAZRIA show held bright and early last Thursday morning. I’ll be honest, few things get me out of bed before 10am and this show is firmly on the short list of reasons to poke my head out of my warm bed early in the morning. This year marks a major milestone for the iconic design house: 25 amazing fashionable and cutting edge years. For such an important milestone, there must have been substantial pressure to produce a standout collection. Husband and wife design duo Max and Lubov did not disappoint. Lubov was inspired by Louisiana and its bayou; she evoked an intellectual interpretation of the scenery and landscape found therein. With its elegant and minimalist color palette, the collection also featured luxe finishing with fur muffs (to be found on multiple runways this season), leather detailing, and delicate beading to be found on silks and wool knits. My favorite piece of the collection? Well, I’m torn between the stunning black piece above, with its fur trimmed skirt, and the dress directly below, with its structured shoulders and flowing skirt.
