While the major international Fashion Weeks might be over, I would be remiss in not sharing these incredible backstage images from the epic CHANEL Spring-Summer 2016 show. The ready-to-wear collection was presented at the famed Grand Palais which Karl Lagerfeld transformed into the most elegant airline terminal in the world. Wearing oversized aviators laser-engraved with the iconic CHANEL quilting and carrying either the new cabin “Coco Case” or an XXL version of the 11.12, hostesses and passengers glided through Terminal 2C of the Paris Cambon Airport.
The color palette featured blues in shades from sky to midnight, crisp whites, bold reds, romantic pink, metal grey, and black. Prints were done with florals and whimsical air travel inspired motifs like arrow signage and departure boards. As for the silhouette, it ran towards the lighter side with an etherial fluidity thanks to the pieces being crafted in tulle, silk, and lace. Tweed, denim, and leather fabrications added the perfect edge to this decidedly feminine collection.
Offering his take on the idea of traveling attire, Karl Lagerfeld created an elegant collection that is ideal for globe-trotting. Quite fitting in that the highly anticipated Cruise 2016/17 collection will be shown in Havana Cuba as the first Latin American inspired Cruise collection in the house’s history. And on the subject of travel, the famed designer offered this: “We travel more and more. So why shouldn’t there be CHANEL luggage?”
I couldn’t agree more Mr. Lagerfeld.
