I kid you not darlings, pilates gives you a seriously great bum…and abs…and arms. You get the point. It’s one of my preferred methods of exercise and I never looked better than when I was taking weekly private pilates classes. When Sarah Brooks invited me to come take a one-on-one class with her, I jumped on the opportunity quicker then you can say spandex. With some serious credentials, think stints at some of the best gyms in New York City and Miami, and super sweet and encouraging personality Sarah is her own best advertisement. Lean and toned, she exudes a natural glow that can be credited to her practice of pilates and healthy lifestyle. After only one session with her, I’m totally hooked and I couldn’t not ask her to share some of her healthy tips and tricks with you, darlings. You can also get daily inspiration and information from her Facebook page. Montreal ladies, make sure to book your own appointment to give the Sarah Brooks Pilates Method a try, you and your bum will be thanking her.
What are some of the benefits of practicing Pilates?
Trained faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits including posture, balance, and core strength. Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience positive body awareness for the first time. Pilates teaches balance and control of the body, and that capacity spills over into other areas of one’s life.
What inspired you to start practicing and then teaching Pilates?
I came from a Fitness Training background, with that being said I had horrible flexibility. One of my colleagues introduced me to Pilates and I fell head over heels. Not only did my flexibility improve, but I also acquired long, lean muscles I always wanted. Shortly after, I was presented with the opportunity to take a course at the Reebok Club in Manhattan through the practice of Pilates Sports Center. It was a great success and I then had a new goal: to develop my own methodology that would combine the best of weight training and the best of Pilates. That way, my clients would benefit from them both in the same workout session!
What are some of your favorite healthy snacks?
I LOVE veggies: Broccoli, spinach, tomatoes and especially cucumber! My favorite snacks are Kale chips, seaweed, and gluten-free toast with organic peanut butter. These snacks are easy and low in sugar.
During the winter, it’s sometimes hard to get motivated to hit the gym. Do you have any tips or tricks for beating the winter workout blues?
Hire a Personal Trainer! Our job is to keep you motivated, inspired, and make it fun for you to get in amazing shape. If you can’t afford private lessons, take a group class and work out with friends. Make it a weekly activity to get together and try new methods you haven’t before.
What services do you offer through your studio?
At the studio we offer private, duo, or group classes. Using a unique method I mix Pilates and Fitness Training. Specialties include Pre and Post Natal, Rehabilitation and weight loss.
