Typically, when Darling Husband and I travel, I have a detailed list of museums, shops, restaurants, and sights that I want to visit before we even take off. Upon arrival, our days have always been full, taking in all we can of the beautiful cities we’ve visited and walking miles and miles to immerse ourselves in our destination. However, avec bébé, this couldn’t have been further from the truth. For our most recent Paris trip, I knew I would have to put my planning (micro managing) to the side and just go with the flow. I preselected two museums Darling Husband and I had yet to visit that I thought would be doable with madam and hoped we would make it to them. There was however one item on my travel list that was a non-negotiable, family photos.
We never did a newborn session when madam was born. While these are very special memories, I decided we would take more than enough photos at home and there was no need to contort our newborn child into faux sleeping poses amongst piles of tulle and assorted props. I also knew we would be travelling to Paris when she was a bit older and possibly (hopefully) a bit more cooperative. Knowing this, I channeled my usual pre-travel planning compulsion into finding the perfect family photographer to book during our stay. I decided early on that I wanted to utilize Flytographer but I decide to do my homework before committing to them. I quickly discovered that all of the other photographers I was looking at had rates that I can only imagine warranted them the distinction of being the Mario Testino of the family photography world. Additionally, they all required a minimum 2 hour shoot which was about 1 1/2 hours more than I thought Madam would be cute, charming, and compliant for.
If you’re not familiar with the fabulous concept behind Flytographer, you’ve been seriously missing out while traveling! With a network of local photographers spanning the globe, one of their incredibly helpful shoot concierges helps you plan and execute your dream photos at a destination of your choosing. You can pick from one of their packages or you can create a custom package so there’s quite a lot of flexibility with budget. With Paris being such a gorgeous city, it was hard to narrow down where to shoot but I ended up going with a quintessential Paris location since the photos would be commemorating our first trip as a family of three to a city that Darling Husband and I love so much. The incomparable Olga was not only incredibly flexible with out shoot date thanks to the ever changing rain forecast and my desire to shoot outside, but she was also one of the loveliest photographers I’ve ever shot with. She did such a beautiful job capturing our family and Madam’s joyful little personality. An award winning wedding photographer, her photos have a soft and romantic quality to them that is perfect for capturing Paris. I can’t wait for our next Parisian adventure, not only to return to a city I adore but also so that Olga can capture more special memories for us. Between you and I, my list of potential shoot locations covers quite a few future visits.
