I’ve always thought of my bedroom as a sanctuary. A place to rest and relax, a calming space that lets me feel cocooned and cozy. Both my personal and decor style lean towards the classic and feminine, and our bedroom totally reflects this. I find a key part of creating this soothing environment is having the perfect bedding. With the recent addition of the Maison Tess Luxe Cotton in Rose, this portion of our bedroom has truly been perfected.
Based in Montreal, Maison Tess is a female owned direct to consumer bedding company that has distinguished itself by proving beautiful bedding at an incredible price point. Known for their muslin and linen sheets they also do beautiful cotton options as well. With a deep commitment to responsible production, they’ve partnered with a Portuguese fourth generation family-owned mill for their manufacturing. All of their products are OEKO-TEX certified to ensure that they are free from chemicals and safe for both the client and the environment. Maison Tess is also a member of the Better Cotton Initiative which secures a sustainable future for cotton and ensures better practices from farmers. However, one of my favourite tenets of Maison Tess is how they have partnered with Chez Doris, a woman’s shelter in Montreal, to donate any returned sheets. This ensures clients are secure in their purchase (there’s a 30 day sleep trial window so that if you are for some reason not satisfied with your sheets, you can return them for a full refund) and that there is no waste.
While all of the bedding options from Maison Tess are lovely, I was particularly taken with the Maison Tess Luxe Cotton. A bit more polished than the Muslin and Linen options, this style is classic and elegant. Embroidered with a double border, I opted for the Rose option. However, there is also a beautiful grey Chrome and a classic Champagne. The Luxe Cotton is perfectly named, thanks to the long staple sateen cotton that they’re made from. They have a high thread count that feels totally luxurious. I also find that this high quality Luxe Cotton not only feels incredible but also breaths wonderfully for an incredibly comfortable night’s sleep. Darling Husband is even convinced he sleeps better with these sheets, and I would have to agree.
My belief in investing in high-quality investment pieces and mixing them with more wallet-friendly items also extends to our bedroom. Our bed is a gorgeous solid wood upholstered piece from Restoration Hardware and was absolutely an investment. Thanks to its beautiful classic styling, it’s a piece that I don’t see myself tiring of. And needless to say, my Maison Tess Luxe Cotton sheets in Rose look absolutely stunning on it. However, the dressers are all wallet friendly IKEA pieces that I’ve updated with gold knobs for an elevated look. And one of the most special pieces that I have in our bedroom is a mirror from my Great Grandmother’s Central Park South co-op in New York City. While the property has long been sold, and my Great Grandmother passed on while I was a young girl, it’s still terribly special to have a little part of her and our family history in my own home.
