There’s something so effortlessly cool about Australian girls. From their tousled hair, to their sun-kissed skin, they seem to have a relaxed natural beauty and good nature that radiates from them. Their typically uncomplicated approach to beauty is the anthesis of the popular multi-step beauty routine that has been so popular as of late. And I’ll be honest, I’m one of those who have totally embraced all of those steps, from a good double cleanse to a litany of toners, serums, and creams. However, there’s something to be said for a paired down, yet still highly effective routine. Enter cult favorite Lano’s recently released Face Base line.
Founder and veteran beauty world insider, Kirsten Carriol is the epitome of the cool Australian girl. With glowing skin and a warm and totally charming personality, she created Lano after seeing a gap in the beauty industry. Since then, the line has distinguished itself as using the world’s best lanolin. Lanolin, an ingredient that has long been popular in Australia, is a naturally occurring and HIGHLY moisturizing natural substance that is extracted from sheep fleece when they are sheared yearly. Growing up within the sheep farming community of Australia, Carriol learned lanolin was the ultimate product to be used for any and all moisturizing needs. Her father, a DNA scientist, taught her that is was the key to skin moisture, and since launching Lano she has shared this knowledge with a legion of devoted clients around the world.
Her latest release for Lano, Face Base, embraces the ethos of the simple, natural, and effortless beauty beloved by so many Australian women. Likening it to a classic and always perfect combo of jeans and a white tee, it’s touted as the easiest and least complicated skincare. With just two products, the focus is on the high-quality ingredients and expert formulas that focus on the skin’s most fundamental need, moisture. The Face Base Gel Cream cleaner is the perfect every day cleanser that cleans without stripping skin of its essential natural oils. Silky smooth, it’s formulated using lanolin, glycerin, and citric acid to balance pH. Since being introduced to the line, this has become one of my go-to cleansers, especially in the morning when I want to wash my face but be very gentle on my skin.
The Face Base Vitamin E Day Cream has also become another favorite product of mine. Formulated using lanolin, vitamin E, colloidal oatmeal, and glycerin, the cream is incredibly nourishing and moisturizing. This hero day cream not only packs antioxidants to help protect the skin from daily environmental factors but also aids in cell hydration, strengthens and plumps skin cells and helps prevent water loss resulting is nourished moisturized skin. I find my skin literally drinking it up after application, and thanks to its neutral pH, I love that I can use the product along with any of my other actives or serums. In fact, what I’ve really come to love about the Face Base line, beyond its efficacy, is that I can use the products on their own or in concert with my myriad of other lotions and potions.
These two products have been my introduction to the world of Lano and lanolin, and needless to say, I absolutely adore them. Beyond being effective, I also really love that Lano is part of the clean beauty movement. Ingredients are natural and of the highest quality, and the products are totally cruelty free. While they do utilize animal matter, the lanolin is harvested from wool that is sheered ethically and naturally regenerates with each yearly sheering, making the products sustainable as well.
