A rare thing happened yesterday, Darling Boyfriend left work while it was still light out. I jumped on this opportunity to meet him downtown where he works and goad him into taking pictures. I have to say, he’s a total champ when it comes to playing photographer. Unless he’s hungry, he’s always willing to indulge me in a bit of cam-whoring, even offering up artistic direction and ideas on locations. He even contributed the gorgeous Hermes scarf that I am wearing as a belt, it was his birthday gift to me last year.
UPDATE: I submitted this post for the newest Bloggers Do It Better challenge, Maxi skirts! Check out the rest of the great participants here.
I suggest you stop reading here unless you don’t mind the mushy story of how we met. When I was growing up I spent many summers attending summer camp in Maine, band camp to be exact…please feel free to ridicule me all you want but it was actually pretty cool – American Pie jokes aside. It was full of crazy talented teenagers, many of whom went on to attend some of the most prestigious music schools and one of those crazy and talented teenagers was a flutist from Montreal ( in case you’re wondering she’s still wonderful and talented and with her own fabulous blog that you should check out, noshameshow. She became one of my closest friends and told me about her cute friend from home that she thought I would like. Thanks to her urging I wrote him a letter and he wrote me back. I ended up visiting her during the school year and she made sure that I got to meet the cute boy who I had written to. After I left we spent another year writing to each other, yes kids….we actually wrote letters and sent them through that quaint antiquated system, the postal service. He even was able to convince his father to drive him down from Montreal to Philadelphia for my sweet 16 so that he could be my date, shockingly that persuasive teenager grew up to be a lawyer. After that he did what any other 16 year old boy would do and stopped talking to me. Good one Darling Boyfriend, way to be a gentleman. Fast forward 10 years, he decided to do a little Facebook stalking and reached out to me and a little over a year later I set off with that giant U-Haul of clothing to move to Montreal.

[Darling Boyfriend’s Editorial]: Ok, so most of you reading that are now saying “What a jerk! Who just stops talking to someone?” I don’t remember it quite like that… But I’m not getting into details. What I will say, is that I never forgot of my first love. She was always there in the back of my mind. So much so that one night while I was on vacation in Miami, she popped into my thoughts one evening. So I thought to myself that I’d look her up on Facebook, just to see what she’d been up to these past few (10!) years. I found a girl whose profile pic looked remarkably familiar, but there was a whole bunch of make-up and artsy butterflies on her face. So I sent a message, asking her if she was the Jess I remembered from my yesteryear (that’s right, I just used the word “yesteryear”). Turns out, it WAS her! And then when we started talking, and she decided that a trip up to Montreal sounded like a fun idea, I simply couldn’t believe it was all happening. But more than anything, I’ll never forget laying my eyes on her again, for the first time. We were at the airport and she was walking though the gates. My jaw dropped to the floor – “That girl is coming to see me?” I thought to myself… And that’s when I knew, that girl is the girl.
