This past Saturday night, Darling Husband and I were proud Montrealers as we hosted some of our friends to cheer on the Canadians at the Bell Center for their win over Chicago. Our evening at the game has inspired me to share some of my tips for dressing for a sporting event and still maintaing your style.
Long, long ago and far, far away, in a magical land called my early twenties, I was a NHL WAG. What’s a WAG you might ask? It’s the nickname given to the wives and girlfriends (WAG) of British footballers who would frequently standout in the stands for their fashion choices and became just as popular as their partners. Below you’ll find my tips for maintaining your style during a sporting event and how not look like a puck bunny or groupie.
1. Leave the stilettos at home, stick to comfortable but still cute footwear like a wedge or riding boot. You will look ridiculous as you teeter you way up and down the aisle to your seat.
2. Dress according to the temperature. This may seem like a relatively obvious tip but I can’t tell you how many times I saw some poor, silly, and rather chilly looking girl in a getup that was more appropriate for a night club in hopes that she would catch a players eye.
3. Leave the giant handbags at home and stick to an easy style like a cross-body bag.
4. If you can, ditch your coat in the car. The last thing you want is to worry about it getting smushed in the stands on dragging on the ground when you jump up to cheer on your team.
