When the weather begins to turn cooler, my tastes start shifting towards deeper tones and while it has become somewhat traditional to wear brighter shades in the warmer months, and darker hues from fall through winter, I still like to add a dash of something different to keep things interesting. As a “colour purist”, I tend to stay within my comfort zone when choosing what lacquer to wear, but even within standardized shades, there are little details that can take a colour from boring to breathtaking, such as the addition of shimmer, a sly ducochrome flash, or an intensely glossy shine.
It has become common knowledge, that today’s lacquer has also taken on another role; not just an adornment for your nails, nail polish is now THE finishing accessory that completes your entire look, tying in hair, makeup and wardrobe. Fortunately for us, there is such a vast assortment of brands and colours available, that you can’t fail but find something that appeals to you, and at a price point you like! The following varnishes are not only perfect to carry you through the cruelties of winter in incredibly chic style, but also embody the many aspects of the season, from deeply mysterious, cozy comfortable, to festively fashionable!
Dior ‘Camel’ (Mitzah Collection Fall 2011) – a creamy true tan, perfect for the office but with a hidden party shimmer
OPI ‘Road House Blues’ (Touring America Collection Fall 2011) – a darkling moody blue, with a rock & roll bite
CHANEL ‘Rouge Carat’ (Holiday 2011) – a stunning blue-based red, showing off a metallic gleam
Essie ‘Power Clutch’ (Fall 2011) – an intense green based grey, mysteriously dark and so seductive
Deborah Lippmann ‘Single Ladies’ (Fall 2011) – a gorgeous wine dark red, with a mirror-like shine
NARS ‘Space Odyssey’ (Fashion’s Night Out Fall 2011) – a brilliantly shimmering silver foil, a beacon for your nails
Butter London ‘Wallis’ ( Fall 2011) – a regally glimmering antique gold, filled with olive green reflects
CHANEL ‘Peridot’ (Fall 2011) – a truly incredible hue, exotically flashing gold, green, & blue
a-england ‘Camelot’ (The Mythicals Collection) – an onyx so intense yet creamy, but with the most brilliant high shine
Dior ‘Tuxedo’ (Fall 2011) – a deep, yet incredibly shimmer-filled royal blue
Illamasqua ‘Bacterium’ (Spring/Summer Toxic Nature Collection) – a uniquely light-filled metallic taupe, showing off pearly blue inner flashes
China Glaze ‘Midtown Magic’ (Fall 2011) – a glittering amber beauty in a darkened plum-brown base
I cannot begin to express what a huge thrill (and honour!) it is to be invited to write a guest post for the always- fashionable, yet still so incredibly down-to-earth Jessica (my fashion guru!) … thank you! It’s not often that I get to have such fun, rummaging through my stash and attempting to put together a post like this, trying to pin down exactly what I really believe expresses the task at hand, and I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my world as much as I enjoyed sharing it! Have fun with your lacquer and remember: anything goes, as long as you love it!
