I love supporting Montreal based designers. We have such a rich and vibrant fashion scene here and there are so many amazing design talents that call Montreal their home. The other week a beautifully wrapped package landed on my doorstep and nestled inside a little silk lingerie bag were three beautiful and lacy pieces of gorgeous lingerie from globLove. I’d previously heard wonderful things about the line and I’m happy to confirm they’re all very true. If you’re looking for beautifully feminine pieces with delicate details, look no further then globLove. I hope you enjoy my interview with the designer of the line, Liana Artinian, as much as I did. She’s a truly talented designer who is committed to making women look and feel beautiful and with helping make the world a better place. A woman after my own heart! For those in the Montreal area, make sure to stop by the Pop Up Sale that will be held on April 3rd from 5pm-7pm at 44 Notre Dame E to join me and other fashionable Montreal ladies in picking up some pieces of your own.
What inspired you to start designing lingerie?
I’ve been sketching from a very young age and have been a (very!) avid lingerie consumer. Lingerie has definitely been my guilty pleasure! After working almost 10 years internationally in the fashion industry from positions such as buying, sourcing and branding, I felt I had gained enough experience and know-how to launch globLove. And voila!
What inspired your latest collection?
My latest collection was inspired by the femme fatales of the 1960s, the likes of Edie Sedgewick and Brigitte Bardot. Some of the pieces have a bit of a retro look, and a vintage feel to the combinations of satins and intricate lace. The colours are soft and playful. It’s “Belle De Jour” meets Warhol.
As for my latest campaign “Factory Girl”, I have always had a deep-rooted fascination with film and vintage icons, which have been the inspiration for most of my campaigns. This time around, I was completely wrapped up in the the bittersweet glam of 1960s female icons, and their sometimes tragic fates so this was my “fashionable” interpretation of it. Contrast has always played a big role in my campaigns, and I do sometimes feel there is a very thin line between beauty and what lies underneath. It’s fun for me to explore these concepts on camera and I am always fascinated by the feedback I get.
Describe the GlobLove girl?
The globLove girl is sensual, but not overtly provocative. Inspired, feminine, free, and playful. She is ever-exploring and true to herself. She wants to be comfortable all the while feeling sexy and elegant. She can be strong, driven and independent without compromising her sensuality and feminity. She is also socially conscious, giving and grateful, which I think are qualities that contribute to being beautiful inside and out.
I love that you have a charitable component to your line. What is FINCA International and how do you incorporate them into GlobLove?
FINCA International is a global microfinance network providing financial services to the world’s lowest-income entrepreneurs. For over 25 years, they have been creating pathways out of poverty for people—mostly women— struggling survive on less than $2 per day.
By simply donating five percent of sales to FINCA, globLove contributes to the success of small businesses run by women in developing countries, enabling them to take their futures in their own hands and empowering them through the freedom that comes with opportunity.
Village Banking programs break the vicious cycle of poverty. Without credit, low-income people may work hard but stay poor because of a lack of opportunity and capital.
By participating in a Village Banking group, mothers can better care for their children. As nutrition and health improve, women then invest income in education, followed by home improvements.
