There are a few clothing items that always seem to make this list of classic French favourites. La marinière, a little black dress, chic flats, a well tailored menswear inspired blazer and an effortlessly knotted scarf are a few of these items. However, one of my favourite items that’s perfect for the summer and that many a Parisienne seems to favour is a simple straw handbag or tote. French style icons like Jane Birkin, Bridgette Bardot, Ines de la Fressange, and Lou Doillon have been, and are, frequently snapped carrying these simple yet chic bags.
I stumbled upon this particular bag by the popular French line POLÈNE last summer and I was instantly smitten. The basket style is quite charming and I love the black leather detailing on it. And while Darling Husband thinks it looks like a waste paper basket (he was confused to see it on my arm rather then under a desk the first time I wore it out) it has been one of my go-to bags of the summer and perfect for emulating French girl style.
