Move over fishtail braid, it’s all about the jumbo bun right now. You can hardly click through a beauty or fashion blog without coming across one of these bad boys. The jumbo bun has quickly become my go-to hair style for when I want perfectly coiffed hair, but really don’t want to put the effort into blowing it out. This style is perfect for almost any occasion and can seamlessly transition from day to night. It looks like you put a whole lot of effort into your hair but in reality, you barely did anything. You just need a few simple items that you can most likely find around your house to put the jumbo in your bun. Here’s a simple guide to achieving this hot hairstyle.
You’ll need a sock with the toe cut off, I recommend a knee sock since it will help create a fuller form for you to shape your hair around and either a lighter colored sock for light hair or a darker colored sock for dark hair so you wont see any strange color poking through when you’re done, a hair elastic, some hair pins, and some finishing or hair spray ( I swear by L’Oreal Professionnel texture expert Sparkling Mist for seriously shiny hair).
Start by pulling your hair back into a ponytail in the desired location for your bun. A trick of mine for making it easier to work with your hair when creating a look like this is actually let it get a bit dirty. I know it might not be to your liking to skip a washing, but dirty hair is actually easier to manipulate and will hold a style better. Next, place the hair elastic at the top of the sock, have a poodle look at you like you’re crazy/need to give her a treat (this step not necessary), and start rolling the sock over the elastic to create a donut shape.
Once you’ve created your sock donut, place it at the top of your ponytail and spread the tips of your hair around it. You’ll then start rolling the donut down the length of your ponytail while working your hair around the form. Depending upon the length of your hair, you’ll do this just a few times before you’ve reached the bottom and your entire ponytail has been rolled over on itself around the shape of the sock donut.
Finally, secure it in place with a few hair pins and spray on some finishing or hair spray to complete your style. That’s it darlings! One seriously fabulous looking hair style with minimal effort, poodle not included. Make sure to check back this week when I show you how to pair your jumbo bun with three distinct looks perfect for your new hairstyle.
