Famed French olfactory House Diptyque has recently launched a limited edition collection of one of their most beloved scents. Diptyque’s iconic Do Son is celebrated through the creation of a creative short film set to a score by singer-songwriter James Blake as well as special visuals. The animated film is brought to life with line drawings that evoke the creation and memories behind this captivating scent. Additionally, Diptyque is offering beautiful limited edition bottles of Do Son along with a new travel size offering. On the body care side, Do Son is reimagined in a limited edition cleansing hand and body gel and a set of perfumed soaps. For the home, the 190g Tubéreuse candle’s glass jar takes on a new blue color, while a new candle makes its appearance on the catalog : the 600g Tubéreuse candle and its ceramic jar, colored in the red that represents this classic Diptyque scent.
The perfume, composed by Diptyque’s founders Fabrice Pellegrin, with invaluable input from Christiane Montadre-Gautrot and Yves Coueslant, was conceived with Coueslant’s mother in mind.
As a child, Yves Coueslant would spend his summers in Do Son, in the Along Bay. The salty winds would carry with them the heady and spicy smell of tuberose. Do Son carries the persistance and intensity of a childhood memory in Indochina. A voluptuous memory of flowers, skillfully combining tuberose, orange blossom, jasmine and amber wood.
“It was a collaboration, with much sharing and listening between the three of us. I drew sustenance from the tales of travel and of life imparted to me during my encounters with the founders of Diptyque, and Do Son was born out of those conversations. The fragrance was my attempt to recreate, via the distinctive scent of tuberoses, the atmosphere and the memory of a childhood spent in Vietnam. Tuberose is an exceptional flower – majestic in every respect, and for Yves, enveloping and material. It became our point of reference. I worked on it with great care, developing its green, aquatic, floral, creamy and sunny facets. And that’s how the accord came into being.” – Fabrice Pellegrin
