Custom CHANEL Slingback
Few creative partnerships in fashion capture the quiet power of craftsmanship quite like that between Chanel and Massaro. Their collaboration began in the late 1950s when Gabrielle Chanel turned to the legendary Parisian shoemaker to bring her vision of the two tone slingback to life, a design that would redefine modern elegance and become one of the most enduring icons of the house. Massaro’s artistry and precision complemented Chanel’s instinct for refined simplicity, creating a shoe that lengthened the leg, lightened the step, and perfectly balanced form and function. Today, this relationship continues through Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection, with Massaro’s atelier in Paris still handcrafting each pair with the same devotion to savoir faire that defined their very first creation.
Experiencing this heritage firsthand at the Chanel boutique in Montreal was an unforgettable moment of quiet wonder. Using an iPad, I was able to design my own pair of custom Chanel slingbacks, exploring each of the eight components that make up the shoe, from heel height to lining and color. We perused beautiful books filled with exquisite leathers, tweeds, satins, and embroideries, each one reflecting the timeless artistry that defines Chanel. The team even shared a remarkable piece of history, unveiling Gabrielle Chanel’s own Massaro boot brought from the archives in Paris. It was a truly special and unique experience, where modern technology met the soul of traditional craftsmanship. In that moment, surrounded by beauty and history, I was reminded that true luxury lives where past and present meet, and that every Chanel creation tells a story all its own.
