I frequently get emails asking for recommendations for hotels and restaurants in the cities that I’ve been fortunate enough to visit and live in, so I thought I’d start sharing my experiences at some of my favourite properties from my travels. I’ve been lucky to stay at some absolutely gorgeous places, many of which I wish I had properly photographed in order to share my experience after my stay. Going forward, I’ve resolved to document my stays and I’m so excited to share some of these special places and properties!
For my recent whirlwind trip to New York city with Eos for the launch of their new Crystal Lip Balm {check out the exciting news here}, I had the pleasure of staying at The Ludlow. Situated on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, this stylish hotel is the perfect mix of rock and roll edge with understated glamour. Plush faux fur throws were casually tossed over rich purple velvet chairs, the bed linen was monogramed with the hotel’s name, and bold monochromatic art adorned the wall resulting in a room that felt both welcoming and achingly cool. As for the bathroom, one of my personal marks of any good hotel, the careful attention to detail and design that was found throughout the whole of the property extended beautifully. Comfy bathrobes by Maison Martin Magiela, black and white tiling and luxe brass hardware abounded resulting in what one can only surmise as #decorgoals. My first night was spent in one of the studio rooms while for my unplanned but nevertheless enjoyable second night, I was upgraded to the lofts. The rain shower that had been featured in the studio room from my first night was replaced with an amazing soaking tub with a spectacular view of the city stretching out around The Ludlow.
I also had a chance to enjoy not only some very tasty room service that was incredibly prompt, but I also got to try the on-site restaurant as well. Dirty French had a decidedly French feel as its name would imply. Exposed rustic beams and clubby red leather banquets paired quite nicely with the luxe rock and roll vibe found throughout the rest of the property. With a small but well-curated menu and what looked like quite a nice wine list (I make no claims as an expert on this subject, my rather shoddy litmus test for wine is if it smells like a headache or not), Dirty French is worthy of a visit even if one is not checked into the hotel. As for the location, it couldn’t be more ideally located for exploring the excellent boutiques, restaurants, and many night life options the Lower East Side has to offer.
For those looking for a decidedly cool yet welcoming vibe in a city that can at times feel overwhelming, I would highly recommend The Ludlow. With comfortable well appointed rooms and an excellent restaurant you’re sure to enjoy your stay.
