Montrealers have a tendency to get away during the long winter months as an antidote to the staggering amount of snow we get. Typically, they head south to warm sandy beaches, but who am I to follow trends. As a fun treat for my parent’s birthday (they rather adorably share the same birthday), we decided to head even farther north for a stay at the legendary Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. Nestled within the UNESCO Wold Heritage Site designated fortified Old City, the property overlooks the St Lawrence River and offers guests breathtaking views from its high vantage point. For over a century, this luxury property has welcomed everyone from royalty, movie stars, world leaders and those simply looking to relax and enjoy the gorgeous historical beauty of the Chateau and Quebec City.
As part of the Fairmount network of properties, I knew to expect incredibly high quality service and an attention to detail that would all but assure a wonderful visit. Needless to say, the Fairmont Chateau Frontanac did not disappoint. Since my parents are members of the loyalty program that Fairmont offers, we were welcomed on the Fairmont Gold private concierge floor. Situated on the 14thfloor, there are incredible views over the river and city that you can take in while you enjoy complimentary coffee and tea, as well as breakfast and cocktail canapes in the evening. The warm and welcoming concierge checked us in, made dinner and spa reservations, and arranged for our bags to be promptly delivered to our room. I find that Fairmont properties always make a point of providing exemplary service, and the Chateau Frontanac did not disappoint.
Madam and I promptly settled into out Fairmont Gold City View Room and my parents into theirs. Our bags quickly arrived, and the concierge had also very sweetly sent up a madam-sized bathrobe for her to enjoy during our say. Recently renovated, the room not only had a gorgeous view but was beautifully appointed. With a sitting area, work space, incredibly comfortable king sized bed, and marble bathroom, it was both elegant and quite functional. One of the marks of a truly good hotel is a beautifully designed and fully stocked bathroom with quality toiletries. And I was presently surprised to find that at Chateau Frontenac, their bathrooms are stock with toiletries from Le Labo – a very nice touch!
During our stay, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet every morning at Bistro Le Sam, and even dined there one evening as well. Breakfast was decadent and delicious. There was a wonderful and varied selection that allowed us to enjoy healthy options like fresh fruit, oatmeal, local smoked salmon, and eggs, as well as treats like maple syrup covered crepes, eggs benedict, and pastries to name just a few yummy offerings. Dinner was just as delicious and was a highlight of our stay. The menu offers a variety of both meat, fish, and vegetarian options and is a mix of classic favorites and even Quebec and French-inspired dishes.
As for the spa, the massage I enjoyed was excellent, and I only wish I had made the time to enjoy the indoor pool and gym. With the wading pool, the pool (and the entire property for that matter) is incredibly family-friendly. From exploring and enjoying this gorgeous heritage property to taking in the totally charming Old City, Quebec City and the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac make for a wonderful destination and property to enjoy. Even before checking out, I already was planning my next visit. I can’t wait to return during the summer to enjoy even more of this gorgeous hotel and charming city!
