It’s no secret that some of the most anticipated items in a CHANEL collection are the bags and accessories. With the Maison having just unveiled their Summer Ready-to-Wear collection during Paris Fashion Week, I thought I’d give you a detailed look at the CHANEL SS23 Bags and Bijoux. The collection was inspired by the French New Wave film Last Year in Marienbad that Gabrielle Chanel created the costumes for and also acted as inspiration for Karl Lagerfeld during his tenure at CHANEL. Kristen Stewart, a dear friend of CHANEL and ambassador, also acted as a muse for this collection. CHANEL Creative Director Virginie Viard notes “Whether it’s her, or the other women I dress, I need to feel that they like the clothes anyway. But, of the people around me, she is the closest to Gabrielle Chanel, at least to my idea of her. She understands CHANEL, its clothes. And with her, it becomes even more modern. This collection, it’s also her.”
With such fabulous inspiration, it’s no surprise that that CHANEL SS23 Bags and Bijoux are down right incredible. Leather gloves featuring oversized bows and sequinned mesh shoes made for the perfect feminine and luxe statement pieces. Jewelry featured favourite motifs like bows, gilt chains, pearls, camellias, and the House’s signature interlocked “CC.” As for bags, classics like the flap were shown in a myriad of fabrications ranging from supple leathers to signature tweeds. The beloved top handle vanity style was quite prevalent as well as a mini version of the recent released CHANEL 22 that was adorned with gilt and pearl chains. Even among this sea of spectacular bags, the minaudières truly were the standouts. These fantastical creations always become collectors items and the eyeshadow quad shaped style from this collection are sure to send CHANEL clients and collectors right to their SAs.
