As per my promise in last week’s CHANEL Runway Report, I’ll be giving you a detailed look at the CHANEL SS22 RTW Accessories that were unveiled during Paris Fashion Week. The collection gives a loving nod to some of the House’s most iconic imagery, codes, and moments, and this is carried over to the accessories of the collection.
When it comes to the bags, those shown as part of the CHANEL SS22 RTW Accessories collection were a mix of classic styles and what will surely be seasonal favourites. The classic gilt chain is reimagined oversized and is already causing major buzz among CHANEL’s loyal following and the purse community as a whole. There’s also a chic camera bag style that features large quilting, a chain top handle, and what appears to be a long chain allowing it to be worn cross body. There were also slouchy shoulder bags as well as perfume bottle minaudières that are all but assured to be collectors’ pieces. However, one of the real stars of this totally stellar selection of bags is a whimsical heart shaped quilted bag that I’m guessing many a SA has already received a request for. Mark my words, it’s going to be one of the It-Bags of Spring-Summer 2022.
Bijoux are bold and dramatic, perfectly referencing the original designs of Mademoiselle Chanel and the beloved maximalist styles of the 1990s popularized under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld. Logo heavy, they featured many House symbols. Byzantine crosses, camellias, pearls, and ropes of gold gilt chain to name just a few. Another highlight was a dramatic gold butterfly cuff adorned with “CC”s that were styled as a pair – a subtle yet beautiful touch to the famous cuffs that Gabrielle Chanel wore as a matched pair.
As for footwear, Virginie Viard notes of the flared heels and bucked Mary-Janes and sandals as being reminiscent of pirate shoes. “I always like to have something romantic. A touch of mystery.” Adding a whimsical touch to the collection, these styles are sure to be wildly popular.
