CHANEL J12

November 21, 2016

It’s no secret, I adore CHANEL. This fabled house has always had a particular draw for me. From my first 2.55 bag to my most recent purchase, a classic tweed set, each CHANEL item in my wardrobe feels and is incredibly special. These are items that are not simply a bag or dress, but rather works of art in their own right. The craftsmanship that goes into each garment, bag, belt, shoe, or piece of jewelry is staggering. Few designers produce their lines in the way that the House of CHANEL does. They are not only are innovators in the field, but also one of the fiercest protectors of classic forms of design like lacemaking and embroidery.

Rich with heritage, the House of CHANEL has held a special place in the fashion world since Gabrielle Chanel opened her first boutique. The CHANEL woman is unapologetically feminine, yet she is strong and confident in herself and her style. She is achingly elegant, but does not shy away from simple clean lines and menswear inspired tailoring. From prêt-à-porter and costume jewelry, to the rarified world of haute couture and high jewelry, CHANEL has continued to distinguish itself in the world of design through the masterful blending of the classic and the contemporary. This rich heritage and identity is particularly apparent in the J12 watch. Launched in 2000, the J12 impacted not just the fashion world but the exclusive world of watches as well. Done in ceramic, it instantly elevated this raw material to a precious material in horology. Since CHANEL debuted their first watch in 1987, the house has distinguished itself as one of the premier watchmakers in the luxury sphere. Combining the heritage of the house with expert watchmaking skills, CHANEL timepieces are truly works of art.

It was when CHANEL released the white J12 in 2003 that I fell totally in love with this luxe timepiece. Subsequent versions done with mother-of-pearl and diamond detailing have only further fuelled my love of this watch. (And in case you’re reading, Darling Husband, feel free to fulfill my watch wish here.) I’m a wee bit partial to the version I’m wearing in these photos – the diamond indicators are perfectly understated but nevertheless luxe.

I enjoy long walks through Neiman Marcus, red soled shoes, skinny black pants, oversized cocktail rings, obnoxious bows, nipped waists and full skirts.
