The CHANEL Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 collection was unveiled a few weeks ago in the centre of the Nave of the Grand Palais. The runway was formed of a double C that invoked the Maison’s iconic logo as well as an infinity symbol. This powerful iconography was quite fitting for a collection that honours the legendary Gabrielle Chanel and her work as a couturière. The colour palette of the collection also honoured Mademoiselle Chanel. It featured black, her use of which proved to be rather radical and revolutionary at the time, as well as gorgeous vivid bright tones and delicate pastels.
This sweeping use of colour lent a downright joyful air to the CHANEL Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 collection. This joy was evident in pieces that were elegant and enchanting and that highlighted the expertise of the CHANEL Haute Couture ateliers. Spectacular fantasy tweeds were encrusted in glittering and bejewelled finishings. Gowns were shown both long and short and were done in the most etherial and delicate chiffons and satins. The collection was pure classic CHANEL Couture at its best. The mastery of the Maison is evident on the runway but when one sees the pieces up-close, it is all the more staggering. The intricate beading and embroidery, perfect pleating, and the exquisite baubles, buttons, and flowers that adorn the garments are emblems of that mastery.
This year marks the 110th anniversary year for CHANEL Haute Couture, a unique distinction in an already rarified world. When Gabrielle Chanel launched her eponymous line over a century ago, she quite literally started a fashion revolution. Her celebration of the modern woman has remained at the heart of the CHANEL universe. To see that very Maison continue to innovate and create such staggering works of beauty and art is a truly special thing.
