Last week, the CHANEL F/W 22/23 Haute Couture collection was unveiled in Paris. “I have imagined the Fall-Winter 2022/23 Haute Couture show in the continuity of the previous show, leaving room for experimentation,” says Virginie Viard. Held at the Étrier de Paris equestrian centre, the setting proved to be the perfect bold and graphic backdrop for a collection that was elegantly feminine. Viard once again expertly weaves together the masculine and the feminine with an Haute Couture collection that also perfectly balances the fantasy of Haute Couture with her hallmark uncomplicated Parisian elegance. Touching on the contemporary heritage of the House with its storied history, the collection features a nod to the tenures and aesthetics of both Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.
Viard notes, “In this new collection, there are suits, long dresses like Mademoiselle Chanel imagined them in the 1930s: fitted to the body even though they have strong shoulders here, and pleated dresses like the wedding dress for instance. And lace too, inlaid, reworked, not embroidered, but repainted. The palette consists of bright green, khaki, beige, pink, lots of black and silver.” Pieces from the spectacular anniversary High Jewelry collection “1932”, which itself pays tribute to “Bijoux de Diamants”, the one and only fine jewelry collection Mademoiselle Chanel created in 1932, glittered at the neck of many a model as she came down the runway. Lagerfeld’s attachment to the keyword “graphic” was beautifully referenced not only in the striking decor, but also in the rounded shoulders, square backs, and embroideries with geometric shapes and patterns. It is in these very details that one sees the full virtuosity of a CHANEL Haute Couture collection. The maison’s unwavering devotion to the preservation of the incredible skills and techniques that are required to produce Haute Couture garments and the spectacular details and finishings found on them are invaluable.
Kudos to the House of CHANEL and Madam Viard for the spectacular CHANEL F/W 22/23 Haute Couture that is both beautifully fresh and new, yet honours such a rich and dynamic history!
