Last week, the CHANEL CRUISE 22/23 Collection was unveiled in Monaco. Held beach side in Monte-Carlo, the collection was a chic and whimsical nod to the House’s deep ties to the glittering principality. “To me, Monaco is a matter of feelings above all…say’s Virginie Viard. From very early on, I knew we would hold a show there, and more precisely at the Beach Hotel. Besides, Karl was dreaming about it. From this magnificent venue, one can glimpse his villa, La Vigil. I will never forget the times I spent there: terraces and balconies, big umbrellas, baskets of flowers – so much beauty.” This beauty is found throughout the collection with flower appliqués being sprinkled in both delicate fabric and sequin fabrications. Day wear is done in light tweeds, delicate knits, and other light but luxe fabrics with a decidedly sporty vibe. Bathing suits are effortlessly elegant and can easily be worn for swim or as a bodysuit for day or night. For evening, there are billowing flag checked chiffon gowns and stunning white tiered lace skirt and shirred top.
Additionally, there were cheeky nods to two other great Monégasque pastimes, the ballet and F1 car racing. Slinky wrap skirts evoke the feel of ballet styling, while tweed boilersuits and caps are a cheeky yet decidedly elegant take on racing style. These two styling nods can also be found throughout the accessories as well. CHANEL cruise collections always feature inventive and playful minaudières and for the 2022/2023 collection they are flower-covered and some are even in the form of racing helmets and mini tennis racket cases. The additional bags that make up the CHANEL CRUISE 22/23 collection are a delightful mix of classic styles as well as seasonal shapes. The newly launched CHANEL 22 is even shown as a fun backpack. For shoes, there are metallic detailed sneakers that are sure to be scooped up as soon as they hit boutiques and black satin heels adorned with strass buckles that are a nod to ballet dancers point shoes. Bijoux is sumptuous, and features the iconic Double Cs of the House, as well as other favoured symbols like gilt chain, pearls, and Byzantine crosses.
