The CHANEL classic flap bag is truly a classic bag. Along with the 2.55, it is arguably one of the House’s most iconic styles. Elegant and understated, it has been a coveted style since it was first released. An updated take on Gabrielle Chanel’s first bag for CHANEL, the 2.55, the Classic Flap features a double-C lock closure that makes it instantly recognizable. It is a style that has yet to go out of fashion. In fact, its popularity and status as an “It” bag only continues to grow.
Whenever I’m asked what designer bag I would recommend as a must have, I always recommend the CHANEL classic flap. Not only is it a beautiful bag that stands the test of fashion time, it holds its value well. A well taken care of CHANEL classic flap bag will continuously fetch a large amount of its retail value on the re-sale market. Hard to find colours and special seasonal styles that feature special fabrications or embellishments can even command a value above retail on the re-sale market as well.
While this bag is absolutely an investment – the price tag seems to climb every year – it is a bag that you will continue to reach for. I’m a big fan of the cost-per-wear argument, and the admittedly, price tag on this bag is significantly broken down when taking this approach. It’s also an expertly made bag that is meant to last. My own classic flap featured with this look is over ten years old and still looks as wonderful as the day I purchased it.
