The Parisian Haute Couture shows were held last week and the eyes on the fashion world were on Karl Lagerfeld and the venerable house of CHANEL. Held twice a year, January and July, these shows showcase some of the most incredible pieces for the coming season. As a member of the vaunted Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, CHANEL is one of the very few houses that produce the luxurious creations that can legally be called Haute Couture. Strict rules govern the creation of these exclusive creations resulting in garments that are truly works of art. From sumptuous fabrics to intricate hand-beading and stitching…
Runway Report: Best of Cannes Chanel Edition
Once a year, the tony little seaside town of Cannes on the French Riviera becomes the epicenter of the entertainment industry thanks to the world famous Cannes Film Festival. From the famed red staircase of the main theatre and the Croisette, to the studded galas and dinners, during the festival, Cannes also becomes a 24 hour fashion show thanks to the celebrities and glittering guests who descend on the town. While the films are the main draw, the fashion is what always draws my attention…
BCBGMAXAZRIA F/W 15 Press Day
I had the pleasure and privilege of attending the BCBGMAXAZRIA F/W15 runway show (you can check out my review here) this past NYFW. While I fell in love with the collection during the runway presentation, finally seeing it in person at the recent press presentation of the runway and ready-to-wear collections for F/W 15 really proved what an outstanding collection it is. It’s always fun to see a collection on the runway. The theatrics of the presentation and being able to see how pieces move as they come down the runway on the models is quite something. However, seeing the collection in person is always another wonderful experience…
Runway Report: Lacoste F/W 15
The final show that I’ll be recapping from my time at New York Fashion Week is the Lacoste F/W 15 runway presentation. Held at Lincoln Center, the show was elaborately staged on a set that evoked a feeling of being on a court. The collection was a mixed homage to the characters of Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums and the brands founder, Rene Lacoste. Shirts were emblazoned with “Rene Did It First” as a cheeky nod to the iconic labels founder and his simple shirt design that launched a fashion powerhouse. Not simply focusing on sportswear, Lacoste’s current designer Felipe…
Runway Report: Misha Nonoo X Aldo Rise F/W 15
One of my fashion week highlights was attending British designer Misha Nonoo’s Valentine’s Day runway presentation. Since launching in 2011, her eponymous line has quickly become a favorite of the fashion community and celebrities like Emma Watson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Classic yet youthful with a school-girl meets suiting aesthetic, Nonoo’s F/W 15 ready-to-wear collection is a mix of elegant separates and a handful of standout dresses. Beautifully tailored…
Runway Report: Banana Republic F/W 15
Banana Republic has always been a top choice for classic professional attire. However, thanks to the newly appointed creative director Marissa Webb, Banana Republic’s first ever fashion week showing was packed with the fashion crowd who were collectively exclaiming their appreciation for the F/W 15 collection. Under the aptly titled hashtag #thenewBR, you can see on social media what a stylish new direction the line has…
