There are a few fashion rules that I think need to be broken, white after labour day and pairing black and dark blue together are my top two followed closely by pairing black and brown together. I find that the combination of navy and black can be quite elegant and I decided to embrace this some time fashion faux pas for early evening cocktails in the Old Port with Darling Boyfriend and his colleagues. I’m guessing you’ve noticed that if I’m having cocktails it’s usually in the Old Port, what can I say…I love this charming and always vibrant area of Montreal. Throw in a bunch of over-achieving lawyers who were excited to be out before sunset and it made for a wonderful evening at Philemon. The music was just loud enough, the drinks perfectly chilled and the conversation was lively, all and all a perfect night.
Back to the fashionable matter at hand, pairing black with navy blue. I usually opt to keep my outfit simple with clean crisp lines when pairing these colours together. I feel that by taking this route, the colours are able to blend together nicely without looking busy or overdone. With a touch of gold jewelry and a wonderful vintage Chanel belt, this was an effortlessly chic look that was both simple and elegant. I also scored extra points by wearing one of those items that still had tags on it that Darling Boyfriend took such an issue with. Granted, I discovered this while ordering drinks and it was pointed out to me that I had a tag dangling from my back. Oopsies. So darlings, what are your favorite fashion rules to break?
