I’m a bit of a beauty junky. While I love and stay incredibly loyal to a few key brands and products (I’m looking at you Biologique Recherche), I also love testing and trying out new-to-me goodies. I especially love discovering incredible beauty tools to integrate into my skincare routine. With Covid-19 seriously limiting our access to beauty services, I’ve found myself reaching for beauty tools all the more to help recreate some of my favourite treatments at home. My favourite beauty tools are a combination of high and low tech and come in at a variety of price points. I’ve rounded up my top 5 for you here with them being shoppable via the links and widget below.

Gentle yet highly effective, the ageLOC LumiSpa from NU SKIN is a next-level facial brush. The cleansing head is made with high-grade medical silicone making it anti-microbial and very easy to clean. Its counter rotating motion gently cleans the skin, lifting dirt, oil, and makeup. Unlike bristle brush heads on similar cleansing devices, the LumiSpa is non-abrasive. I’m always amazed by how clean this tool gets my skin but without stripping it or over-cleansing it. Even on days when I don’t wear makeup, using this at the end of the day shows just how much dirt and grime accumulate and comes off with proper cleansing.
There’s nothing quite like seeing my girl Michelle for a lymphatic drainage session but thanks to NU SKIN’s Galvanic Spa device, I can do a good approximation of her treatment. This is actually the tool that she uses and while my first choice is to always see her in person, it is wonderful to be able to continue her incredible work from my own home.
This Gua Sha stone is one of my most reached-for beauty tools. One could easily argue it’s one of the original beauty tools in fact. Gua Sha is part of traditional Chinese medicine where a tool like this is used to scrape over the body in a deliberate manner to release the body of toxins. For the face, it’s key to apply moisturizer first before using the Gua Sha stone. When used on the face, it helps to tone and sculpt the facial muscles. It also acts as a lymphatic drainage tool much like the NU SKIN Galvonic Spa device.
Created by a hairstylist with over 25 years of experience, the Manta hairbrush is the ultimate gentle yet effective hairbrush. Stylist and creator Tim Binnington created the Manta brush for his wife to use following the loss of her hair due to a life threatening illness. Once her hair started to grow back, the Manta brush allowed her to brush her hair gently and with minimal breakage. With its flexible body, the Manta gently frees knots and tangles without stressing or breaking the hair. It’s safe to use on all types of hair including extensions. Not only do I love using this brush myself but its perfect for madam as well. She has never once complained about a knot or tangle snaring as I brush her hair.
This Ice Roller is one of my best Amazon finds to date. It’s under $20 CAD and is perfect for combatting a puffy face. I tend to reach for it if I haven’t slept well or indulged a little bit too much the day before. It calms my skin and helps take down the puffiness that can result from exhaustion or too much salt or sugar. I also find it incredibly calming to use when I have a migraine. While it doesn’t totally take the pain away it definitely helps reduce my discomfort.
