As a young girl growing up in the South of France, Marypierre Julien lived above a perfume shop and was taken by the world of fragrances. At the age of 9, she informed her parents that she wanted to become a “nose” and while her perplexed parents were not quite sure of what their young daughter was intending to do with this path, Marypierre began her journey to becoming a leading perfumer. After honing her craft, she has gone on to create over 80 well-known scents and her most recent creation is BCBGMAXAZRIA bon genre. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Marypierre the other week to chat about the newest fragrance from the famous design house, her inspiration for the scent, and the importance of perfume in a woman’s life. Working closely alongside Lubov Azria, Julien immersed herself in the world of BCBGMAXAZRIA to create a scent with bold notes of lychee, red berries, bergamot and black pepper. The resulting fragrance is mysterious, sensual, and a bit playful. The BCBGMAXAZRIA bon genre woman is a city girl, perfectly in the know and terribly chic. She’s the woman you see stepping out of a town car impeccably dressed in sky-high heels and the perfect leather moto jacket.
